Extra Tips

  • Using a meat thermometer instead of going by a set time will allow you to cook this easy camping recipe for sausage balls until they’re perfectly done! You don’t want to eat undercooked pork, but these sausage balls are pretty awful if they’re dry and overcooked. Start cooking to temperature instead of time and you’ll always love the results – a sausage ball that’s fully cooked and delicious – and not remotely dry.
  • If you plan to store these for a few days, double the batch. These can keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container, but they’re so good they probably won’t last that long!
  • Do not, we repeat, do not cook the sausage ahead of time. You might find other sausage ball recipes online that call for cooking the sausage first, but this can actually lead to the sausage balls drying out. Use raw sausage, let it cook through while they bake, and enjoy the texture and flavor difference!
